Where to eat

Here are a few tips from our many trips to Playa de Santiago:

La Cuevita

Promenade, Playa de Santiago, La Gomera, Spanien

+34 922 89 55 68

Fico and Veronica are the owners of this "Cave turned restaurant" located next door to the harbour. Great location and atmosphere.

La Cuevita has typical Spanish food, everything from Steaks, Omelettes, Canarian potatoes (patatas canarias) which are basically heavily salted potatoes in their jackets, to Fisherwomans spaghetti (I translated this dish into English for them many years ago. Its very rich in taste and not good if you are on a diet!).

Great to just hang out at the bar and chat to anyone who pops in for a coffee or beer. Probably one of the best restaurants in town, if you combine atmosphere, service and food, although they haven`t changed the menu much since they opened.  This could be the first time you have eaten in a cave!? Open for lunch and evening meals. No-one polishes glasses like Fico🙂

Tasca Enyesque

Fantastic tapas restaurant on side road to the plaza. This place is a must.

The view isnt fantastic but the atmosphere is always lively. The owner learnt his trade at Hotel Tecina. Very different food to the rest of the island. This restaurant is very popular and you may need to book a day in advance.

KUSS

The owner Fransisco has turned his parents fish restaurant into an excellent Tapas restaurant.

Avenida Maritima 58, 38810 Playa de Santiago, La Gomera, Spanien

Open for lunch and evening meals.

PASTELERIA LELO

Lelo is our local Portugese baker and if you fancy a good coffee and a nice cake this is the place to stop. Most of the locals drop in for a chat and a coffee on their way to/from work. Its busy but nice....very Gomeran.

This is by far the best bakery on the island and its well worth a visit.

Don Tomato

4 Plaza Nuestra Senora del Carmen, Playa de Santiago

Everything from pizza to….well pasta is served here.
Pizzas are the best in town according to our kids!
Nice to sit outside on the sea front and watch the world (or a very small part of it) go by. Open for lunch and evening meals.

Bodegon del Mar / Sports Bar

Avenida Maritima 35, 38810 Playa de Santiago, La Gomera, España

+34 922 89 53 19

The bar and plaza area are frequented by the locals, most tourists sit outside in the sun. Football games can be watched here. The Real Madrid v Barcelona is a must...even if you dont like football. It`s fun listening to the locals arguing about tactics and who should or should not be playing! Open all day until late at night!

La Chalana

Barranco Colon Laguna, off Avenida Maritima, 38810 Playa de Santiago, La Gomera, Spanien

Usually top on Trip Advisor. This is the best beach bar on Gomera. It started life as a hippy bar on the beach back in the 80`s. They serve excellent tapas, good coffee and snacks. Open for lunch and early evening.

Sit and watch the endless waves roll in and hit the beach just 20 metres from where you are sitting.

La Marea

TRASERA AVENIDA MARITIMO, 38810 Playa de Santiago, La Gomera, Spanien

Why would anyone choose to locate a restaurant facing a car park when you could have great views of the Atlantic on the other side of the building??? Strange! Very good food and nice/ friendly owners. Try a GOYA fish...excellent. Open in evenings. They also do take away pizzas if you feel like staying in.

Beach Bar Tarajal

This bar has been open for at least 15 years. It is an easy going place, they make good tapas. They have built an elevated platform so you can see the beach etc. Nice place to relax and hear waves crashing onto the beach!

 Club Laurel

This is the smartest place to eat in Santiago. It`s recently been refurbished.

Beautiful view located on the beach with swimming pool. A pianist sometimes appears during the evening. Nice but slightly more expensive than the restaurants in town. Open all day. You dont have to stay in the hotel to eat here.

Hotel Tecina

The hotel has everything a 4 star hotel set on a cliff above the Atlantic Ocean should have, for example: 3 swimming pools, outdoor spapools, several restaurants and cafes, shops, tennis and squash courts and even a disco! Art exhibitions on 1st floor.

There is a good and reasonably priced Tapas bar opposite the tennis courts and nesr the main entrance.

Live bands and shows are on most nights. See posters in hotel reception area. Its free for everyone just purchase a drink and relax!
Cars can also be hired from La Ruedas office behind the recption desk.

Tecina Golf Club

The club can be visited by non-members for a beer, cake, tapas or coffee on the terrace. The putting green and driving range are free to use for anyone, just have to pay a small sum for balls. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Views to the Atlantic Ocean from the laid back bar area.
We have a few clubs in the house that you can borrow.
